The Argentine government confirmed its intention to submit the free trade agreement with the United States to Congress. In a statement, the presidential administration emphasized that President Javier Milei relies on the responsibility of legislators when considering this document.
Official Buenos Aires characterized the deal as a strategic step. Authorities believe the agreement is based on economic openness, clear rules for international exchange, and a modern approach to trade complementarity.
Key objectives of the agreement include reducing tariff and non-tariff barriers, facilitating trade in goods and services, and modernizing customs procedures. Special attention is given to stimulating investment in energy, critical minerals, infrastructure, and technology.
The government noted that this step confirms the course towards Argentina's integration into the global economy. Authorities intend to abandon years of isolation in favor of an open, competitive, and predictable model that encourages investment and innovation.
“Our country finds itself in a unique historical situation to regain global political and economic leadership. We are ready to prove that Argentina can revive its former greatness,” the government statement said.
The document will be submitted to legislators for consideration in strict accordance with the Constitution.
